in-cumbria | Fifty new electric car charging points across Cumbria

A network of charging points for electric cars is being rolled out across Cumbria.

A Solway Renewables’ PodPoint
Solway Renewables, run by Suzanne and Lawrence Burgess of Bowness-on-Solway, has secured £50,000 of government funding to install charging points, known as PodPoints, free at B&Bs and domestic premises.

It has already installed eight along Hadrian’s Wall with four more to follow.

And Solway is in the process of installing 50 across Cumbria by the end of September.

Previously, the county had only eight.

West Cumbria is particularly badly served at present. There are no public charging points between Carlisle and Ravenglass.

Mrs Burgess said: “We’ve been amazed at how quickly people have embraced the potential electric cars provide.

“One of our customers has already taken the first steps to buying an electric car.

“They hadn’t been considering it before we contacted them about having a charging point, but having seen the range electric cars have and looked closely at their own usage, it’s become a viable option.”
