Fancy driving an electric car in Munich?

Calling all motoring fans: Were you drooling over the sleek BMW i cars seen in the Tom Cruise 2011 movie Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol?

You may well be the lucky one behind the wheel of an i3 hatchback, BMW’s first mass-produced electric car.

One Straits Times (ST) reader and his or her partner will fly business class to Munich, Germany, for a four-day holiday during which they will get to test-drive the i3 car.

He or she will be among 80 readers who will also enjoy a sneak preview of the i3 at a marquee event held at Ion Orchard here on Aug 21. They can also get to see another model, the i8, which is a plug-in hybrid sports car.

The preview and Munich trip are part of a contest organised by ST and BMW Asia under the Straits Times Appreciates Readers (Star) programme to reach out to our readers and the community.

ST editor Warren Fernandez said: ”I watched the Tom Cruise film and thought the car was uber-cool. Who wouldn’t want to get behind the wheel of his BMW? That thrill will go to one very lucky ST reader.”

Made from lightweight carbon-fibre, the i3 can run about 120km to 160km on a single charge of its battery and will go from zero to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds.

It was launched in Beijing, New York and London on July 29 and will be available in Singapore next year.
