EV battery startup Cloteam gets $3.5M DOE award

Cloteam LLC, a startup led by battery expert Christina Lampe-Önnerud, was awarded a $3.5 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The startup, which was founded by the same founder of venture-backed, lithium-ion battery startup Boston-Power Inc., was one of 22 projects across 15 states that received to $36 million to develop electronic vehicle (EV) energy storage systems using different designs. The award falls under a new program under the DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) project called the Robust Affordable Next Generation Energy Storage Systems (RANGE). The program is focused on EV adoption by improve range and low-cost, low-carbon alternatives. The program hones in on the battery system rather than working to boost the energy density of individual battery cells.
