COMINGS & GOINGS: Tesla charging station going in at Pivot Point Yuma Sun

Electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc. has promised to boost the number of fast-charging stations in the U.S. and Canada to make cross-country travel possible in the coming year for owners of Tesla’s Model S sedans.

And one of those charging stations is coming to Yuma, one of eight the car maker reportedly wants to establish between Phoenix and San Diego where several cars have been sold. A few of the cars also are owned by Yuma residents.

A request to put the supercharging station at the Pivot Point Conference Center was approved recently by the city’s Design and Historic Review Commission. The station would have eight stalls and provide free charging to supercharging-enabled vehicles.

A supercharging station can charge up to 50 percent in 20 minutes, Tesla said on its website.

Alexis Georgeson, spokeswoman for Tesla, confirmed that the car maker is planning to develop a supercharging station in Yuma but didn’t provide a timeline
