Audi A3 E-tron – A New Electric Car is to be Revealed in 2014

Audi Australia is said to reveal Audi A3 e-tron next year. With the launching of this new car, Australia will for the first time sell Audi’s hybrid model.

Audi Australia says, “We’re proud the Audi A3 e-tron doesn’t look like an electric car.” This vehicle runs on electric motor and turbo petrol engine. This is the perfect choice for the ones who desire to drive an electrically powered car and be the envy of the crowd. Audi A3 e-tron has a very sophisticated and shiny appearance but it is expected that it will look much like the A3 cars.

However, the engineering of the car suggests something else. Let’s see what is there under the skin of the car.

PLUG-IN HYBRID

This new car is of the plug-in hybrid variety and not the usual battery electric cars. It is quite dissimilar to the original A3 e-tron ones. In this new car, you will find a turbocharged gasoline engine which works with the aid of electric motor. Both of these together generate 204 horsepower. The setup of this car is pretty compact with electric transmission and motor side by side and the engine at the right side of engine bay.

Battery power is capable of used up to 80 mph. Like in majority of the electric cars, hard braking depends on the friction brakes.

BATTERIES

The battery pack of A3 e-tron is made up of 96 lithium-ion cells manufactured by some external source. The other features of the battery is constructed and developed by Audi. The location of the battery doesn’t affect the trunk space. The new battery of the new car is much reduced in weight. The battery pack has sufficient rating to run 30 miles.
