USA: Events to spread the word about electric cars

A chance to test-drive a new Tesla sedan is among the activities planned over the next few days

The Eugene Water & Electric Board is sponsoring one of three events this week that the utility hopes will spark interest in electric cars.

Electric car advocate Paul Scott will talk about his experience in the electric vehicle market on Friday evening at EWEB’s waterfront headquarters.

Scott, who is a Nissan LEAF salesman in Los Angeles, founded a California nonprofit agency in 2008 called Plug In America that promotes electric vehicles as a way to cut energy consumption and curb carbon dioxide emissions.

“The idea is to create a little bit of buzz with electric vehicles,” said Jeannine Parisi, EWEB’s community and local government outreach coordinator.

Parisi said Scott reached out to the utility, saying he wanted to visit Eugene.
