NitroBahn » Nissan Leaf’s Rising Demand Leads to Short Supplies

The all-electric vehicle Nissan Leaf in its first two years in the market failed the Japanese automaker’s sale goals. OnceNissan lowered the price of the electric vehicle, the demand for the vehicle has increased dramatically. With the rising demand, Nissan is finding it difficult to keep up. Since the 2013 Nissan Leafs went on sale this March, the automaker has consistently sold over 2,000 units a month. Brendan Jones, who is director of EV infrastructure strategy for Nissan, has even come out and said sales will move even higher this summer.

According to Automotive News, Erik Gottfried, Nissan’s director of electric vehicle sales and marketing, recently attended a dealer meeting in Dallas, Tex., where demand for the Leaf is at an historic high. Gottfried told dealers that it will be late fall before enough Leafs are being made to meet consumer demand. That’s despite Nissan ramping production up in Tennessee to cope with the four-fold increase in Leaf sales. “They really want more Leafs in Dallas,” Gottfried told Automotive News. “I assured them that we’re doing everything we can to get them more inventory. But it’s taking some time.”
