Level 3 electric car charger unveiled

The City of Thousand Oaks has installed the first Level 3 Electric Vehicle Fast Charger in Ventura County at the Thousand Oaks Transportation Center, 265 S. Rancho Road.

In a partnership with Ecotality, the project is supported by funding from a statewide Electric Vehicle Project and a $25,500 grant from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District.

Level 2 chargers throughout the region take up to eight hours to fully charge a vehicle; however, the Blink manufactured Fast Charger offers a “quick and full” charge in 30 minutes or less.

The charger includes a touchscreen color display that provides instructions on its use, along with real-time communication capabilities.

The City of Thousand Oaks’ vehicle fleet comprises 53 percent alternative fuel vehicles.

The installation of the EV Fast Charger at the transportation center was based on its location along the 101 Freeway and proximity to businesses on T.O. Boulevard.

The cost of installation, electricity and maintenance of the EV Fast Charger is paid entirely by Ecotality as part of its five-year lease agreement with the city.

The public has unrestricted access. There is a $5 fee per charging session. For more information about local, regional and statewide EV charging, go to
