More than 250 charging bays will be available across the region’s ten districts and will be managed by the Charge Your Car network. One of the country’s ‘Plugged-in Places’, Greater Manchester secured a fund of £1.7 million from the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and received a further £1 million from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to pay for the charging points.

Chance to test drive an EV

To mark the launch of the new Greater Manchester Electric Vehicle (GMEV) scheme, the region’s local transport authority, TfGM will hold a launch event on Friday July 26 and Saturday July 27 at the Intu Trafford Centre to raise awareness of the scheme.

Visitors to the intu Trafford Centre will be able to visit Orient Way to see electric vehicles, including the Tesla Model S (which isn’t even available in the UK yet) and the Renault ZOE, and speak to representatives about GMEV. There will even be chances to test drive ZOE cars at the event. Visitors can book a test drive by emailing in advance or, subject to availability on either day, simply turning up with their full driving licence.
