Ford deploys 66 electric vehicles for Cologne study

Ford of Europe has launched a fleet of 66 plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles in the city of Cologne, Germany, as part of an ongoing €13.2m (£11.4m) electromobility study.

The fleet includes the Focus Electric and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid, beginning the second phase of the Ford-funded colognE-mobil research project.

Between now and 2015, the vehicles will be used to improve public perception and example possible improvements to infrastructure, including the use of renewable power and safety issues, as well as e-cabs, car sharing and ways of networking with public transport.

Bernhard Mattes, chairman Ford of Germany, commented: ‘The continuation of the colognE-mobile project underscores our clear commitment to environmentally responsible mobility, especially the electrification of vehicles.
