AMSTERDAM – Following a recent agreement by the Netherlands government to expand its network of electric vehicle charging stations, Dutch gas station owners are responding with lawsuits, Autoblog Green reports.

Twenty-six gas stations in the Netherlands are suing the Dutch government, arguing the more than 200 charging stations proposed for the country’s highways qualify as “refueling” centers and because they receive government incentives and are free to open shops, they pose an unfair competition to their businesses.

In 2011, the Netherlands selected Fastned to establish a charging infrastructure of more than 200 stations throughout the country. Fastned, along with ABB, is scheduled to begin installing the chargers in September.

Holland is trying to stimulate adoption of the technology through programs such as EV-purchase incentives and the provision of free charging in Amsterdam, among other cities.

Twinkies Hit Store Shelves With Fewer Calories

The new version of the snack cake is nearly 10% lighter than its predecessor.

July 16, 2013

NEW YORK – Twinkies began revisiting store shelves yesterday, but the new versions are slightly smaller than you may have remembered them, the Associated Press reports.

Say hello to the new 38.5 gram, 135-calorie Twinkie, a lighter and less caloric version than its 42.5 gram, 150-calorie predecessor.

Hannah Arnold, a spokesperson for Hostess, said the size change was made last year by the predecessor company as it tried to avoid financial collapse.

The new product also includes a 45-day shelf life stamp, though retailers can request the company to freeze the iconic bakery items and thus stamp their own expiration dates on them.

Private equity firm Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co. purchased Twinkies and other Hostess products after Hostess Brands announced last November that it was closing.
