BIZ BRIEF: Nissan, DHL test new electric van in Tokyo

Eyeing a commercial launch in 2014, Nissan Motor Co. has joined up with DHL Japan Inc. to field-test its electric compact van, e-NV200, the company said July 12.

Nissan provides the logistics company with a prototype of the vehicle for approximately three weeks. DHL will use the e-NV200 to deliver packages around the Marunouchi business district in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward.

DHL and Nissan will evaluate the vehicle’s potential and the practical usability, taking into consideration its economic and environmental performance. Feedback gleaned from the field test will be reflected in the future development of the vehicle.

Nissan is running this kind of proving test with several large commercial fleets, including Japan Post Co., Aeon Retail and the Saitama city government, to understand how the e-NV200 test car performs under real-life operating conditions.

The e-NV200 is Nissan’s second global electric vehicle, following the Nissan Leaf, the world’s first affordable EV for the mass market.
