Audi to develop a plug-in hybrid for China

Audi has announced plans to jointly-develop a plug-in hybrid vehicle with their Chinese partner First Automotive Works (FAW).
Speaking at an event to mark the 25th anniversary of their partnership, Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler congratulated his colleagues and confirmed plans to bring plug-in-hybrid technology to China. He didn’t go into specifics but confirmed the model will use a combustion engine and an electric motor that “work together effectively.” The executive went on to say the model will be able to be recharged using a normal electrical socket instead of a special charger.
There’s no word on when the model will be introduced but Stadler said the car is an “important milestone” that will strengthen their “international competitive position” and move the company closer to their goal of selling two million vehicles annually by 2020.
