Volkswagen CrossBlue plug-in hybrid makes European debut

It was first introduced back in April at the Auto Shanghai 2013 event, and now the Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe plug-in hybrid (pictured) has made its official European debut on home turf in Berlin.

The vehicle is based on Volkswagen’s MQB architecture and includes a transverse-mounted turbocharged direct injection 220kW 3.0litre V6 petrol engine and a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. It is seen as a sportier version of the diesel CrossBlue SUV concept that made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

At the heart of the vehicle is a DSG unit that operates around the 375V marker and a 9.8kWh lithium-ion battery. Its electric motors meanwhile contribute 180Nm at the front and 270Nm at the rear. When driven in sport mode, the vehicle can achieve total torque up to 700Nm.
