The revolution is underway

T AKING another giant step towards dispelling the ‘milk float’ image of electric cars a new world record was set this week when one scorched up an RAF runway at more than 200 mph.

Former science minister, businessman and racing driver Lord Drayson was behind the wheel of the Drayson B12 69/EV electric Le-Mans Prototype which smashed the previous record of 175 mph which has stood for almost 40 years to lift the barrier to 203 mph.

The B12, running on tyres supplied by Michelin which has just announced a technical partnership with the project, did two runs within one hour with its average being the new record. The team is now staying on at RAF Elvington in Yorkshire and will try to set new records for acceleration.

Lord Drayson says: “I’m delighted we’ve beaten the record and can show the world EVs can be fast and reliable. Drayson Racing is a laboratory for EV technology, testing it to the most extreme level, as we’ve seen here.
