At the centre of the prestigious event, which was one of the key activities mandated by the Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW), Nissan displayed the ground-breaking Nissan Leaf, the world’s best selling all-electric, zero tailpipe emission production vehicle.

Keynote speakers included H.E Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, and H.E Paolo Lembo, United Nations Resident Representative with international panelists and speakers including Dr. Kipling Perkins, United Nations Director and Dr. Finn Mortensen, CEO Denmark State of Green.

“Nissan is investing in a portfolio of ‘green’ technologies to maintain its global leadership in developing and delivering ‘zero emission’ transport,” said Mr. Samir Cherfan, Managing Director, Nissan Middle East. “Some of these technologies are the future but today we already produce the world’s best selling all-electric passenger vehicle in Nissan Leaf. While Leaf is not yet available in the region, its presence at events such as the Ajman Green Economy Conference underlines Nissan’s commitment to being at the forefront of the Middle East’s drive towards a sustainable future,” he added.

While Leaf is not yet available in the region, its presence at events such as the Ajman Green Economy Conference underlines Nissan’s commitment to being at the forefront of the Middle East’s drive towards a sustainable future,” he added.

While Leaf is its best-known zero emission product, Nissan has made substantial investment in a broad range of ‘green’ technologies, beginning with the all-electric car. However, Nissan is preparing with the ultimate objective of supplying a lineup of cars that will be totally neutral to the environment. These include hybrids and fuel cell vehicles.

“Nissan has a clear vision of the future of transportation and in conjunction with countries and governments, it will develop the necessary infrastructure to manufacture high-quality zero-emission cars that are safe, well-engineered, attractive, affordable and fun to drive,” said Samir.

Nissan Leaf is powered by a compact electric motor in the front of the car, which drives the front wheels. Leaf has the performance of a 1.6 litre petrol-engine car and can be recharged to 80% battery capacity in around 25 minutes from a fast charging point. In two-and-a-half years more than 58,000 have been sold around the world, 30% ahead of where hybrid sales were in a comparative period of time.
