Nissan expands battery warranty promise to first LEAF owners |

Nissan is to retrospectively apply its new warranty that ensures against driving range loss to owners of its original LEAF models, so that they benefit from the same guarantee as buyers of the new, updated 2013 model.
This means that LEAF owners will have a warranty that guarantees the cars battery will retain at least 9 out of 12 bars of its capacity (approximately 70 per cent) after 5 years or 100,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. Over 10,000 European customers will benefit from the change, and the Japanese firm says it will contact owners in writing over the next month, to inform them of the good news.

According to the carmaker, of the 10,000-odd existing LEAF owners in Europe, 93 per cent say they are ‘very’ or ‘completely’ satisfied with their fully-electric hatchback car.
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Paul Willcox says Nissan is pleased to offer the expanded warranty to existing customers to reassure them of Nissan’s confidence in the technology, commenting: “We are in a unique position of having over 10,000 customers in Europe and 62,000 globally using a 100% electric car everyday and over two years of feedback on their experiences. Our analysis of available data shows that our battery technology, which is developed and manufactured by Nissan with our partner NEC, is durable and reliable in real world use here in Europe.”
