NEWS: RIC installs electric vehicle charging station

Electric cars can now get a jolt at the Rhode Island College campus in Providence. On Monday, the college announced the installation of an EV (electric vehicle) charging station for full electric and hybrid cars.

The station is currently for the use of faculty, students and staff, but RIC is working with the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources and National Grid to bring in a second station for public use.

“With electric cars, you’re not burning fossil fuels,” said Jim Murphy, sustainability coordinator at the college in a statement. “They eliminate the carbon and soot and everything that gets into the atmosphere that we breathe. It covers many different areas in terms of not having to transport gas or oil and the elimination of pollution that is a result of using fossil fuels.”
