Indianapolis will try Paris-style car sharing | The Courier-Journal |

Indianapolis is an easy city to get around — as long as you own a car.

Next year, carless residents and visitors may get a new option when a French company that runs a large-scale car-sharing service on Paris streets launches its first major expansion — in Indianapolis.

Bolloré Group’s plans to invest $35 million in an all-electric-vehicle system across the metro area are anything but modest: They call for 1,200 charging stations clustered at up to 200 locations, using on-street parking spots and private lots and garages, and a fleet of 500 plug-in electric cars.

The company will officially announce its plans today with Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and Central Indiana business, university and civic leaders. The plans could create the largest electric car-sharing service in the United States.
