Give electric cars bigger grants, says Renault boss | Auto Express

Zero emission cars should get greater Government grants than hybrids
Renault believes pure electric vehicles like the ZOE and Fluence deserve greater Government discounts than plug-in hybrids.

At present, any EV that has a range of 70 miles between charges is eligible for a £5,000 subsidy. Plug-in hybrids that emit 75g/km of CO2 or less, and which can do 10 miles on pure electric power, also qualify for the scheme.

Chief operating officer Carlos Tavares told Auto Express: “We are happy to have support for clean vehicles. It helps the industry.

“So yes, we are happy with the support we receive from the Government. But I would be even happier if it was strictly proportional to the emissions, which means if it is zero it should not be the same as 50, 60 or 100g/km. If you have a tailpipe, it is not zero emissions.”
