Fast Charging Stations’ Testing Completed by BMW and GM – BMW Power

Most major manufacturers are currently working on a shared platform that would allow vehicles around the world to use the same type of charging station for their electric vehicles, no matter the continent or country.

Up until now BMW, General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, Daimler, Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche committed to using the SAE combo fast charge connector based on 120V/240V electric networks.

In this regard, BMW and GM engineers just announced that they passed a milestone in the adoption of the connector for DC Fast Charging. Based on this progress, the major manufacturers for the connect can now start producing parts for upcoming EVs.

The agreed companies include ADD, Aker Wade, Eaton and IES. For testing purposes, pre-production versions of the upcoming i3 and Chevrolet Spark EV were used.
