Charging stations — and conduits — are out on the Pacific Avenue project » Kitsap Sun Mobile

BREMERTON — The Bremerton City Council Wednesday night collectively put its foot down over Pacific Avenue electric vehicle charging stations.

Not only will no stations be part of the $3.1 million revamp of the road between Sixth and 11th streets, the council voted unanimously to remove even the conduits that would supply potential charging stations there in the future.

“Why put it in if we’re not sure this is where they belong?” questioned Bremerton City Councilwoman Faye Flemister of the conduit.

The city has four charging stations it received through a state grant. But the council objected to the stations at Sixth and Pacific because some feel they do not charge cars fast enough and that they would have taken up street parking at a time when the state Legislature recently made it a $124 fine to park a nonelectric vehicle in one of the spots.
