A few years ago, the researchers belonging to the Rice University have determined the measures to generate graphene ribbons by “unzipping” carbon nanotubes. It was then considered as a solution of a problem.

However, now it seems like a problem, instead of a solution. It is suggested that it’s a bigger problem with an enormous effect over the solar and wind power markets.

The latest twist suggested the application of the carbon nanotube to energy storage. The nanotube used is derived graphene nanoribbons. The conclusions are an assuring new platform for developing more durable, lightweight and efficient lithium-ion batteries.

The pre-existing li-ion batteries are improved with graphene nanoribbons by the researchers. Graphene is considered as the strongest material in the world. Before the arrival of the graphene, carbon nanotubes were a major achievement in the advanced electronics.
