Public vehicle charging stations are popping up in droves across the U.S.

If you’ve been thinking about making a green switch vehicle-wise but have concerns about where to find a public charging station, fret no more! Nearly 200 publicly accessible plug-in vehicle charging stations popped up across this country last month in response to the increasing numbers of plug-in hybrids and electric cars reports AutoBlog Green.

So far there approximately 5,865 charging stations according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Drivers of plug-in cars want to be able to charge their vehicles without feeling hindered, whether it be at home, work, or in their communities. Charging stations have created unique opportunities for communities, businesses, educational institutions, and utility companies to deploy charging infrastructure to meet the needs of EV car owners and enjoy increased patronage and, in some cases, additional revenue.

With sales up nearly 200 percent over the last year, more and more automakers are committing to making their vehicles greener. The arrival of plug-in vehicles and the growing need for charging stations definitely cements their existence as a technology that is here to stay.
