Nissan Leaf Becomes Third Company Vehicle To Earn ‘Top Safety Pick’ Honor …

Nissan announced this week that their pure electric Leaf vehicle added another honor to it’s trophy case recently after being honored by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as a “Top Safety Pick.”

The new Leaf is the third Nissan model to be named a “Top Safety Pick” in 2013 according to a company press release.

“The IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick’ recognition speaks to the ‘zone body construction’ design from Nissan’s Safety Shield Concept to help protect occupants in a wide variety of crash scenarios,” said Robert Yakushi , Nissan director of product safety.

The LEAF achieved the Institute’s highest rating of “Good” in front, side, rollover and rear crash tests according to Nissan. The Leaf also joined the Nissan Altima and Infiniti M37/M56 on the list of 2013 Top Safety Picks.

Standard 2013 LEAF safety systems include:

-Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags

-Front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags,
