Hotel group plans first nationwide EV charging network

Best Western is to become the first hotel company in Britain to install a network of electric car charging stations at its properties around the country.

Britain’s largest group of independent hotels, consisting of some 270 hotels , plans to install an initial network of 50 Type 2 32A charging stations to allow guests to charge up their electric cars during their stay.
Working with the charity, Zero Carbon World, the firm expects that the selected hotels will have their charging facilities installed by the end of May 2013.
As part of the Best Western’s commitment to the environment, company bosses have also pledged that its ‘green’ campaign will roll out of charging stations to include half of its 270 hotels by September this year.
This will increase ZCW’s current network of 445 charging stations, by more than 30 per cent nationally.
Meeting the needs of EV owners
With Government estimates that there will be some 1.2 million electric cars on Britain’s roads by 2020-Best Western wants to ensure that it is ready to meet the needs of its customers and their battery-powered cars.
Drivers will be able to simply drive their electric car into a Best Western hotel car park and plug it in to charge the battery at no cost.
