First British-Built 2013 Nissan LEAF Gets Delivered In The UK

Mark Goodier, The Former Top of the Pops Host Gets The Keys To The First Ever British-Built LEAF (Note The “Original” First LEAF In The UK In The Background)
Nissan has delivered the very first British built 2013 Nissan LEAF in the UK.

Who is the recipient of the landmark vehicle? Broadcaster and businessman Mark Goodier, who you might remember (but probably not) as the first person in the UK to receive a LEAF that was made anywhere back in March of 2011, some 8,500 miles ago.

We Have To Admit, The New 17″ Wheels Are A Big Improvement
The first UK LEAF marks the end of Nissan’s journey to make the 75 mile (or 124 miles on Europe’s dreams and unicorns system) EV a truly globally built platform.

This particular Nissan was built in the LEAF’s third electric production facility worldwide, in Sunderland. The British facility joins the newly opened Smyrna, TN plant in the US, along with the original Oppama, Japan base of operations.

Jim Wright, Nissan Great Britain’s managing director said of the occasion:

“We are incredibly proud of the new Nissan LEAF and the fact it’s built right here in the UK, at our plant in Sunderland. We believe new LEAF is streets ahead of the competition and are confident the array of improvements will make it even more practical than before, resulting in even more people switching to electric motoring.

The fact that Mark, who has been driving the first LEAF for two years, has come back for more is testament to the quality and appeal of the vehicle.”
