A new Consumer Reports review rates the Tesla Model S with 99 out of 100 points, the first car to score such a rating since the Lexus LS 460L in 2007. Tesla called the car “the most practical electric car” tested to date, comparing its 200 mile range with the more limited range of the Ford Focus Electric and Nissan Leaf. Despite the car having its buyback value guaranteed by CEO Elon Musk, the magazine still added that buying a new model from a startup company could have reliability risks.

The electric car is here to stay!

The Tesla Model S has been named the best car to be tested since 2007 by Consumer Reports. Earning a rating of 99 out of 100 points, the all-electric Model S managed to match the score earned by the Lexus LS 460L in 2007.

“”The Tesla Model S is packed with technological innovation,” said Jake Fisher, director of Automotive Testing for Consumer reports said in a statement. “It accelerates, handles and brakes like a sports car, it has the ride and quietness of a luxury car and is far more energy efficient than the best hybrid cars.”

The glowing review comes just a few months after a controversial report in the New York Times suggested the car’s computer lied about its range, leading Tesla CEO Elon Musk into a public feud with reporter John Broder.
