USA: Stony Brook Energy Nonprofit To Build More Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Governor Cuomo announced funding to increase the number of public charging stations to encourage more people to switch to alternative fuel vehicles.

A Stony Brook nonprofit is one of 14 entities in New York State that will receive funding to boost the number of electric vehicle charging stations it currently operates, state officials announced Thursday.

Greater Long Island Clean Cities Coalition, based at Stony Brook University’s Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center, will receive $200,000 to create 10 electric vehicle charging stations at in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The funding is part of a $3.6 million initiative to increase the number of public charging stations available for consumers to use. It’s part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s “Charge NY” program, which aims to build 3,000 public and workplace charging stations during the next five years and also to put 40,000 more alternative fuel vehicles on the road during that time frame.

“Building this network of innovative charging stations will encourage New Yorkers to use fuel-efficient alternatives like electric vehicles as well as grow the green industry and jobs in the state,” Cuomo said in a statement.
