UK: New Nissan Leaf price

The updated Nissan Leaf will have a starting price of £15,990 when it arrives in showrooms in June

Nissan has revealed a new pricing structure for the updated Leaf electric car, which will be built in the UK and goes on sale in June. And for the first time the batteries can be leased, which drops the purchase price to as little as £15,990 after the Government’s £5,000 electric car grant.

Customers can still buy the car outright though, meaning the maximum you can now pay is £25,490 (after the £5,000 grant) for a top-spec Tekna model. If you choose to lease the batteries, prices start from £70 a month depending on the length of the contract and the mileage covered per year.

There are now three trim levels to choose from – Visia, Acenta and Tekna – costing £20,990, £23,490 and £25,490 respectively if you buy the batteries outright. Choose to lease the batteries and that drops to £15,990, £18,490 and £20,490 respectively.

The cheapest battery-leasing contract is £70 a month, which is for a minimum of 36 months covering a maximum of 7,500 miles a year. Fifteen different combinations are available though, so if you choose to keep the car for just 24 months, covering up to 10,500 miles you’ll pay £95 a month, while the most expensive plan is £129 a month – that’s a 12 month contract covering up to 15,000 miles.
