Sponsored by Sunderland – News – Lumley Castle Nissan slashes price of Sunderland-built Leaf vehicles to £15,990

NISSAN bosses have unveiled the asking price for the new Wearside-built Leaf.

The firm is cutting the cost of emission-free motoring by changing the way it charges to charge up, offering drivers the chance to lease the car’s battery rather than buy it outright.

Cars bought with leased batteries will be known as “Flex” models, and buyers will be able to get behind the wheel of an entry-level Leaf for £15,990, around £6,000 less than previously.

Battery lease prices will start at £70 a month, depending on the length of contract and mileage covered.

The highest price anyone will pay for a Leaf is £25,490, for a top-of-the-range Tekna model, with the battery bought outright.

The Wearside-built Leaf features more than 100 improvements over the original.

The car’s range has been extended from 109 miles to 124 miles and battery recharge time cut by half.
