Electric vehicle maker Tesla might consider building a plant in Texas, CEO says

Tesla Motors might consider building a second assembly plant in Texas for its electric vehicles, the company’s CEO told Automotive News.

Elon Musk, who is trying to get legislation that would allow Tesla to sell electric vehicles directly to consumers in Texas, said the California-based company would invest more in Texas if it gets the exemption, Automotive News said.

Besides spending “tens of millions” on more stores and service centers, Tesla might start looking for a plant location in Texas within three years, said Musk, who is no stranger to bold proclamations.

Tesla, which builds a critically acclaimed $100,000 electric-powered sedan, currently has two stores and service locations in Houston and Austin.

However, because the facilities are not franchised dealerships licensed with the state, they are prevented from engaging in sales activity or warranty work.
