Electric Cars in Beijing

Beijing is set to introduce a policy that will exempt the owners of certain electric cars from the city’s license plate lottery. Residents will also be eligible for subsidies of up to 120,000 yuan when they purchase an electric vehicle.

In this video, Zhou Heshuang (摹撌揌), a reporter with the EO’s automotive department talks to the host of EEO Perspectives about what the new rules might mean for the development of electric cars in Beijing.

Beijing is one of six cities to pilot the use of electric vehicles, but so far it’s mostly been buses and sanitation trucks that have gone electric. Despite being able to avoid the increasingly over-subscribed license plate lottery the lack of charging stations is still a problem in the capital.
