AUSTIN (KXAN) – The head of a one of the nation’s newest automakers lobbied state lawmakers Wednesday to allow his unconventional method of selling cars in Texas.

“Our goal is to bring electric vehicles to the mass market by telling our story, educating the public about electric vehicles, and delivering the best car in the world,” said Elon Musk, the co-founder and CEO of Tesla Motors. said at a news conference in the capitol. “The ability to sell cars through Tesla-owned stores is important for sustainable transportation and is the best chance a new electric car company has of succeeding.”

Musk was lobbying for the passage of Senate Bill 1659 the nearly identical House Bill 3351 . The measures would permit U.S.-based manufacturers of 100 percent electric- or battery-powered vehicles to sell directly to Texas buyers.
