How it works

B-cycle operates on memberships and usage fees.
Greenville B-cycle memberships can be purchased for $60 per year or $15 per week. A $5 24-hour pass is also available. During April there is a $15 discount off the annual membership price.
Once a membership is purchased, the first 60 minutes of each ride is free. Each additional half hour is $4.
B-cycle stations are currently installed at County Square, City Hall, Sterling Community Center, the Greenlink Transit Center, and at the intersections of North Main and College streets and Rhett and River streets.

Fifty-six new wheels are rolling through downtown now that Greenville B-cycle has officially launched.

The bike-share program, a joint effort of the Greenville Health System and Upstate Forever that was first announced in December, offers 28 bikes in six stations around town.

“Greenville B-cycle is an innovative transportation program that offers affordable access to bicycles for short-distance trips,” said Brad Wyche, executive director of Upstate Forever.

“Adding a bike-sharing system was a natural next step for a progressive city like Greenville,” added Wyche, citing Greenville’s recognition as an official Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.

B-cycle is designed to offer convenient transportation for running errands, commuting or connecting with public transportation. Bikes can be checked out and returned to any station, and program leaders envision growing the system to 10 stations with 50 bikes over the next few years.

“Using a bike to get around downtown has so many advantages over taking a car,” Wyche said, including reduced pollution and congestion, health benefits, and ease of parking. And it may even be faster in some cases, he said.
