Attack of the Curly Floor Mats: Subaru Issues Recall

Subaru says it will recall about 10,000 of its 2014 Foresters over defective floor mats, and a supplier of charging stations for electric vehicles announced a recall of some charging units that could overheat, according to reports posted recently on Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Subaru said in its report to N.H.T.S.A. that the resin composition of the backing on the Forester’s floor mats was defective and could cause the mats to curl when exposed to heat. That raises the possibility that the driver’s mat could interfere with the clutch, brake or gas pedals, increasing the likelihood of a crash.

The automaker said workers noticed the problem when the vehicles arrived in the United States from Japan. Subaru will replace all four floor mats on each vehicle.

Another N.H.T.S.A. report says that Schneider Electric USA will recall 578 electric vehicle charging stations – 511 in the United States and 67 in Canada – for a potential connector defect. Schneider told the safety agency that the pins on the charger-to-vehicle connector might overheat and damage either the plug itself or the vehicle’s charging port. The recall affects Schneider’s EV230 EVlink electric vehicle charging stations.
