UK driving electric car push

The UK is taking a front seat in the production of the electric car.

The Nissan Leaf has been unvieled from its first production line – with British Prime Minister David Cameron as the first passenger.

The Japanese auto giant has invested 420 million to set up the UK factory and a new battery plant.

‘Our new battery plant has taken the European car industry into unchartered waters’ said Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President, Nissan.

‘We’ve learned how to integrate an electric vehicle production onto the same line as our most popular car, the Qashqai.’

There has been a drastic decline in European car sales, with last month seeing the lowest February level in over 20 years.
