UK: City Launches EV Charging Pilot Project

The City of London has launched a one year pilot program that will see three Electric Vehicle charging stations placed in the downtown core.

The project will also monitor the use of the existing EV charging network in London.

The three new charging stations are in the lower parking garage at city hall, the parking garage at the Covent Garden Market, and the municipal parking lot #8 at Budweiser Gardens.

They’ve been donated by ChargePoint, Sun Country Highway, and HD Supply Canada Inc.

EV drivers will be able to charge their vehicles at the stations for free for one year.

“Today, London took an excellent step forward by adding three EV charging stations in the downtown core and expanding the existing network,” said Mayor Joe Fontana. “Londoners and visitors have an excellent foundation with about 10 conveniently located charging stations across London. This is the right level of charging infrastructure to encourage greater activity in the EV vehicle marketplace and demonstrates London’s desire to remain at the forefront of green initiatives.”
