USA: Find Storrs Mansfield Electric Vehicle Charging Station Installation Pros

The Town of Mansfield is pleased to announce the availability of 5 electric vehicle charging stations – four are located in the newly constructed Mansfield Parking Garage, located at 33 Royce Circle (near Dog Lane), Storrs, and the other is located in the municipal lot next to the Mansfield Community Center. The fee is $1 per hour of charge for parking garage pass holders and users of the Community Center station. Parking garage ticket holders pay a flat fee of $3.

The Mansfield Community Center has an 83 kilowatt solar array on its rooftop, which supports about a third of the Center’s electrical needs. With electricity being produced by the sun on Mansfield Community Center’s roof, the use of the Center’s charging station could be considered zero emissions.

In addition, the Town of Mansfield has added an electric vehicle to its municipal fleet. Through a Connecticut Department of Transportation alternative/clean fuel vehicle grant, the Town was able to purchase a hybrid electric plug-in Chevrolet Volt. According to the US Department of Energy’s fuel economy website,, the Chevrolet Volt gets 98 miles per gallon equivalent (based on one gallon of gas being equal to 33.7 kilowatt hours) when powered electrically and 37 mpg using gasoline.

In the Mansfield parking garage, a Chevrolet Volt is parked at one of the charging stations and is available for use through the Hertz car share program, called Hertz On Demand. Anyone with a valid driver’s license can become a member, at no cost, of the newly expanded car sharing program. This presents an opportunity to test out an electric vehicle while running errands without making an investment beyond the $8 or $9 per hour car share fee. To become a car share member, visit .

“The DOT alternative/clean fuel vehicle grant allows the Town to replace an older vehicle that was removed from its fleet with a hybrid electric plug-in car that gets better gas mileage and emits fewer pollutants,” explains Matt Hart, Town Manager. “We encourage those looking to rent a more fuel efficient and environmentally-friendly automobile to try the Chevy Volt provided at the Storrs Center parking garage by Hertz on Demand. Also, the addition of five electric charging stations will make owning an electric car a more viable option for our residents and commuters. We see this as an environmentally responsible service for our community to provide.”
