Push is on for more workplace EV charging stations (a lot more)

Providing 10 times more EV workplace charging stations than there are now in the next five years sounds like a very tall order, but that is the commitment made by the utilities, car companies and others who have signed on with DOE’sElectric Vehicles Everywhere Challenge.

And it’s not like the initiative is lacking the collective muscle to do it. The participants are Verizon, 3M, Chrysler, Duke Energy, Eli Lilly, Ford, General Electric, General Motors, Google, Nissan, San Diego Gas & Electric Siemens and Tesla.

Departing Energy Secretary Steven Chu said “The market for electric vehicles is expanding dramatically, giving drivers more options to save money on gasoline while reducing carbon pollution. These 13 companies are taking strong steps to make charging infrastructure more broadly available to their workforce – setting an example for others to follow and helping America lead the global race for a growing industry.”
