USA: Wanted (eventually?): A Sustainable Transportation Planner in City Hall

Bicycle enthusiasts are wondering how quickly the city of St. Paul will fill two positions formerly occupied by women who shared their passion for alternative transit.

This is from the story in today’s (Wednesday, Dec. 2) Pioneer Press:

City planners and alternative transit advocates Emily Erickson and Christina Morrison are leaving the employ of the city of St. Paul.

Erickson, who joined the city in May 2008, was the city’s sustainable transportation planner and well known among bicycle enthusiasts for her work mapping a grid of possible new bike routes through St. Paul.

A spokesman for the Department of Public Works said she declined to publicly discuss why she was leaving.

Morrison, who joined the city in November 2005, also was recognized for her work on alternative transit, most recently the Charles Street bicycle corridor.

“I left a couple of weeks ago,” Morrison said Monday, “and I’m headed to Metro Transit. I’m going to become a senior planner in their Bus Rapid Transit/Small Starts office, which is a new office, and I’m really excited about it.”
