USA: Georgia Power installs EV charging stations throughout state

Georgia Power is now offering electric vehicle charging stations to its employees throughout the state, to allow them to recharge vehicles while they are at work, for free.

More than just a good deal for employees, the program is capturing data to gain insight towards building a better EV re-charging infrastructure for the public, including at the workplace.

The program is part of ECOtality’s Electric Vehicle Project, a public-private partnership with the Department of Energy that evaluates the effectiveness of EV charger infrastructure. Georgia Power is the first company in the state to participate in the program.

One of the goals is to maximize employees’ electric vehicle range and allow employees who commute beyond the 80-100 mile range of most electric vehicles to use them for longer distance travel to and from work. Having re-charging stations at work could prompt some employees to consider purchasing an EV.
