USA: Coalition brings electric car charging stations to Buckhead

The Buckhead Coalition recently used its influence to bring electric car chargers into the community.

Coalition member Garth Peters said the nonprofit group was able to bring together ECOtality, an electric transportation company, and GasXpress, a licensee of Circle K convenience stores, to install the chargers.

The chargers are being paid for with federal money and are part of the EV Project.

“ECOtality is the project manager of the EV Project, a federal research initiative to help build America’s EV infrastructure, which is now in nine states and 21 major metropolitan areas,” ECOtality’s Stephanie Cox said in a press release.

The companies will provide 15 gas stations with “super-fast DC Chargers, and 50 Level II Chargers divided amongst those same convenience stations situated along I-85, I-75, and I-20” according to the press release.

The equipment is valued at $1.2 million, the Coalition says.
