$23 Million Investment: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid to be Built in Marysville, Ohio

Honda is investing $23 million to expand its Marysville Auto Plant, in Ohio, for production of the new 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid that goes on sale toward the end of the year. The 95,000-square-foot expansion will house assembly processes and logistics specifically for the hybrid model. Honda expects to create about 50 jobs with the investment.

2014 Honda Accord PHEV cockpit 2 300×187 imageThe 2014 Accord Hybrid and Accord Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) sedans use Honda’s first two-motor hybrid system that consists of a 137-hp 2.0-liter, Atkinson cycle I-4 used in tandem with a 124-kW traction electric motor, which can function as an electric continuously variable transmission (e-CVT), and a 105-kW electric motor for power generation. Total peak output is rated at 196 hp. The non-plug-in Honda Accord Hybrid is expected to be EPA-rated at 49/45 mpg city/highway, though official ratings haven’t been released. The Accord PHEV has been rated at 115 MPGe with a range of 13 miles on electric power.
