2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Now Available in New York and California

115 MPGe EPA Rating!
To me, the 2014 Accord Plug-in is the most exciting Honda in a while. The company has always had excellent engineering, but sometime in the past decade they decided to take a certain path with their hybrids that made them fall behind when it comes to regular hybrids and plug-ins. This is because Honda’s IMA ‘mild’ hybrid system simply cannot compete with full hybrid systems like Toyota’s HSD, and it cannot be as easily beefed up into a plug-in hybrid drivetrain with a decent electric driving range.

Thankfully, the days of the IMA seems to be drawing to a close, as Honda’s 2014 Accord plug-in hybrid uses a new 2-motor hybrid system that actually was rated at 115 MPG-equivalent by the EPA, a better score than all its current rivals. It will also be the first vehicle to meet California’s very stringent SULEV20 standard.

If you are interested in the 2014 Accord plug-in hybrid and live in either California or New York, good news: the PHEV went on-sale at select New York and California Honda dealers on January 15 with an MSRP of $39,780 (plus destination charge) and a monthly lease price of $429. As production ramps up, we should hear more from Honda about a nation-wide release date. Stay tuned.
