We’ve been celebrating. My restaurants in Leeds and Malton got into the Michelin Guide, which was a great achievement for an amazing group of young people.

I want to thank everyone for their hard work, from the chambermaids to the chefs, the pot washers to the waiters.

Thanks, too, to everyone who showed up to see me cook a few dishes at the Good Food Shows: over 20,000 this year. My God.

I was telling you the other week how busy I’ve been, but it’s all good.

Sometimes I watch the sheer amount of food going through the kitchen doors and it amazes me.

We’re getting through more turkeys, chipolatas, pheasants and partridges than I thought were in the country. The tipsy customers are happy in their paper Christmas crowns. Everyone’s cheerful.

My mum’s happy for a completely different reason. A fortnight ago I had Chris Evans and Alfie Boe on Saturday Kitchen.

Now, it takes a lot to tempt my mother out of her warm Yorkshire cottage.

To get her to come to Clapham in the cold hours before dawn, it has to be incredible. More incredible than Chris Evans (sorry, mate).

It was Alfie she made the pilgrimage for, and she’s still walking on air now.
