Nissan unveils the Hi-Cross Concept at 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show

LOS ANGELES — Nissan introduced the Hi-Cross Concept to show what the automaker has in store for future crossover designs and technology direction. The vehicle made its North American debut during the automaker’s press conference on the first media day of the auto show on Nov. 28. The Hi-Cross Concept features the same fast-charging lithium-ion battery that’s on the Nissan LEAF. The Hi-Cross Concept features ample seating for seven passengers. In addition, it has LED lighting and 21-inch aluminum alloy wheels. No word on if this vehicle will ever make it into production, but it definitely has a nice design.

“You may see some of the elements on a current generation or it may be a possible next generation,” said Steve Roman, a Nissan product specialist. “It has a hybrid drivetrain so you’re looking at a 2-liter, direct-injection gas engine with hybrid technology. It’s a one motor, two clutch system. That’s going to give the driver an absolutely seamless transition from electric power to gasoline engine and back again as needed.”

Can you go over some of the interior features?

“This is a seven-passenger, three-row seats while the second and third row maximize your cargo space by putting the seats down,” he added. “Also inside, you have a T-shaped instrument panel and rich leather used throughout.”
