New Vehicle Extrication: EV Charging Stations in Downtown Indianapolis

While on a lunch break at FDIC 2012 in April I came across a series of charging stations in downtown Indianapolis just outside of the convention center. As plug in hybrids and electric vehicles become more popular, first responders across the country will have a greater potential to encounter charging stations installed in their response districts. If you are unsure if you have any of these stations in your area, a quick check with the building department will likely answer that question.

These units are level II charging stations that operate off of 240V power. If you discover a charging station installed in your district, be sure to familiarize yourself with its operation. Additionally, you should make sure to identify the best means to isolate its power source just in case you need to do so during an emergency response.
