The memoranda of understandings that the two sides signed included one on energy efficiency, and one around the reform of international monetary and financial systems, which aims to accelerate sustainable development, energy security and climate action.

As major developing economies, the two nations reiterated their need to collaborate and share experiences to attain common goals. Mr Singh commented: “We (India and China) have similar environmental problems and can find joint solutions.”

Highlights of the meeting that show the nations are ready to collaborate on leading the clean revolution include:

In the Energy Working Group, both nations discussed opportunities and challenges in the wind energy sector and reviewed a hydro power workshop that was held in Beijing in October.
During the Environmental Protection Working Group, both sides agreed to boost collaboration on the implementation of energy efficiency projects though energy services companies (ESCOs), and to enhance cooperation in water-saving technologies to improve recycling and irrigation systems.
