The city of Surrey is set to get eight new electric car charging stations in the next four months.
The new stations will be built across the city to make them easily accessible and thus encourage the use of environmentaly-friendly electric vehicles.
“This is a great way to ensure a cleaner future for the next generation,” said Surrey-Panorama MLA Stephanie Cadieux.
The funding for the stations comes from the Community Charging Infrastructure (CCI) fund.
The fund, managed by a non-profit Fraser Basin Council (FBC), will build 145 new charging stations in B.C. before the end of March next year.
The charging stations will be built by 41 organizations with support from the government and local businesses.
Local businesses have shown enthusiasm in the endeavour as they are funding approximately 60 per cent of the new stations.
